The John W. Saunders Memorial Park has approximately 12 picnic spots, a splash pad, an amphitheater and a playground. Adventurous folks can embark on woody trails while there are basketball courts for sports lovers.
Located in Valdosta, Georgia since 1861, Sunset Hill Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in the area. Some of the renowned personalities buried in this cemetery are the United States Senator and Colonel William S. West. In September 2004, it got its place in the National Register of Historic Places.
Valdosta State University was established in 1906 and admits both North and Central American students. The main driveway of the campus has two neat rows of tropical palms and the stately university building exhibits the Spanish Mission architectural style.
The Crescent is a pure white mansion constructed in 1898 as the home of Senator and Colonel William Stanley West. It is part of the National Register of Historic Places and the headquarters of Valdosta's garden clubs. It overlooks magnificent lawns and gardens.
Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum showcases textiles, military equipment, archives and scrapbooks, which narrate the history of Valdosta and the rest of Lowndes County in Georgia. One can also view World War II albums and memoirs.
A wonderful example of Southeast architectural design, this stylish home once housed renowned personality Barber Pittman. Restored in 1979, the home is now occupied by the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce. The original family furnishings from the early 20th Century have been well-preserved. The Barber Pittman House was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Today, the home is open for public tours from Monday to Friday between 9:00a and 5:00p. Admission is free.
Stone Creek Golf Club has a picturesque golf course with bright green fairways, deep blue water bodies and brown stone pathways. This club also offers swimming and tennis facilities.
Freedom Park is the site of the local Spring Olympics and other tournaments. It has a disc golf course of 18 holes, professional softball and baseball fields and a dog park for your canine.
